How to contact a university

We know that contacting a university to ask a question can feel very daunting, but LEAPS is here to help and hopefully make it a bit easier for you!

Universities are always happy to hear from you if you have any questions or want to find out more information. Always remember that they are there to help you.

It is much better to ask universities questions early on to help you make an informed decision about your applications, so please do reach out to them if you have any questions.

We have some tips below to help you get in touch, along with a template which you could adapt and personalise to send to a university with details of your particular query.

Why might I want to contact a university?

Some of the reasons you might want to contact the university

  • I want to know more about the Pre-Application Enquiry that was sent to me after my LEAPS Pre-UCAS Interview
  • I'm now thinking about a different course and I want to know if I would likely get an offer if I applied
  • I want to know what type of offer I would get and what qualifications I would need to achieve in S6
  • If there is anything else I can do to make my application stand out
  • I want to ask a question about my personal statement or my UCAS application
  • I want to ask a question about my LEAPS eligibility
  • I want to know about an S6 subject I am sitting and if they will accept it

How do I find contact details for a university?

Step 1 – Go onto the university’s website that you are going to contact

Step 2 – Click on contact us or admissions

Step 3 – You should find an enquiry box to fill out or an email address for new/future students

What information should I give to the university?

The more information you can give, the better! Having as much information as possible will help the university to understand your circumstances and build a picture when they reply.

We've put some suggestions below of what to include, but do feel free to add in extra information when you contact a university if you think it would be helpful.
