S3 Workshop This on-campus event provides an early introduction to university and student life. Pupils spend a morning at a local university exploring the campus with a university student volunteer. Pupils work in small groups to take photos and notes on different aspects of university in order to deliver a short group presentation. For Group 1+ schools.Takes place on a university campus. S4 Workshop This workshop runs over a school period. Pupils will learn about the range of course options available within higher education, as well as where these can lead in future. There will also be an early introduction to the different learning and teaching styles that can be expected within college and university environments.For Group 1+ and Group 1 schools.Takes place in school. S5 Workshop This workshop introduces pupils to what higher education will be like once they arrive. The activity will cover various aspects of student life including the learning and teaching mentioned in S4, independence, and socialising. Pupils will also be encouraged to begin future planning and research in advance of their LEAPS S5 interview. For Group 1+ and Group 1 schools.Takes place in school. S5 Presentation This 'planning for your next steps' presentation encourages pupils to start looking ahead and planning for their next steps post-school, underlining the importance of research and making informed decisions. We also cover how LEAPS fits in to this process, LEAPS eligibility criteria, the LEAPS Transitions Course and what those who are eligible can expect from us over the coming years.For Group 2 schools.Takes place in school. S5 Interview This thirty-minute interview with a LEAPS advisor aims to support pupils to explore - and to make informed decisions around - their higher education options. Topics covered typically include college and university entry requirements, key subjects choices which may be required in S6 to support their future plans, and other ways to make a strong application to higher education study.For Group 1+ and Group 1 schools.Takes place in school. S5 Course Checker This optional activity is for LEAPS-eligible students in our Group 2 schools. Pupils provide LEAPS with information relating to their S4 and S5 qualifications, their proposed S6 subject choices, and any higher education and/or career plans they are considering. Pupils receive a tailored response via email with topics covered typically including college and university entry requirements, key subjects choices which may be required in S6 to support future plans, and other ways to make a strong application to higher education study. For Group 2 schools.Takes place online. S6 Workshop This workshop aims to support pupils with the transition from school into higher education. It covers UCAS responses, the decision-making process, back up planning and next steps. Pupils will be encouraged to think about their own journey and given a check list of actionable tasks to work through in the months following it.For Group 1+ and Group 1 schools.Takes place in school. S6 Interview This thirty-minute pre-UCAS interview with a LEAPS advisor aims to support LEAPS-eligible pupils as they apply to higher education. Topics covered typically include college and university entry requirements, course choices, personal statement guidance, and other ways to make a strong and strategic application to higher education study. LEAPS eligibility is also checked and confirmed at this interview prior to the LEAPS eligibility deadline, so it is vital not to miss it.For Group 1+, Group 1, and Group 2 schools.Takes place in school. LEAPS Transitions Course The LEAPS Transitions Course is an S6 timetable option which is designed to give LEAPS-eligible students the skills and experience needed to make a positive transition from school to university. Throughout the course pupils will work with academics and students from other schools on first-year university-level academic skills, developing confidence and an understanding of what it takes to be successful at university. This is a unique opportunity to get the ‘uni’ experience before starting it for real. This course is optional and participation is subject to approval by your school. Places are limited.
